Nianxin Li

Overview

Nianxin Li, born in 1999 in Chongqing, China, studied painting at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts from 2017 to 2020, and later attended the New York Visual Arts Academy. Her works have been exhibited multiple times in New York. Currently, her creations primarily focus on painting and film. She believes that 3D technology has manifested a parallel world for painting. In her creative process, she intentionally breaks the existing rhythm through details to express a contradictory atmosphere.

The artist's creative inspiration stems from her early educational experiences, a sense of disconnection within family life, and the inconsistency in cause-and-effect relationships. These factors led her to develop a strong interest in absurd literature. The abstract concepts of cubism and the digital aesthetics brought by online media have also greatly influenced her. Plasticity and unnaturalness are significant features of her works. She incorporates elements devoid of historical meaning into traditional still-life pieces, employing colors like neon pink or ultramarin that evoke images of "inedible" and "toxic," along with neutral colors that convey a sense of security. She attempts to use an objective and unfamiliar attitude to question the preconceived framework of traditional family norms. The relationships between objects in her compositions and the connection between the artwork and the viewer are presented in an equal stance, without deliberate guidance. Multiple visual focal points compete and blur boundaries within the painting, creating both isolation and mutual constraint. She endeavors to find a way of existence within a pattern without a central structure, resulting in a composed yet tension-filled ambiance.
