Jess Xiaoyi Han

Overview

Her swirling and dancing brushstrokes emulate the natural flow of emotions. Her works have been exhibited in New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and other places. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

In early career, she used colored pencils and watercolors to create portraits, but later transitioned towards abstraction. Jess's work reflects different stages of her life, drawing inspiration from artists like Kandinsky and Rothko. She believes that abstraction is the most effective way to express personal experiences. Each of her works features a small orb that reflects her emotions, lending the pieces a diary-like quality. The colors and positions of these orbs convey the artist's state of being and initiates an internal revolution that is both calm and chaotic. Her current focus is on meticulous control, mirroring the evolution of expressionist styles, characterized by frenetic compositions that maintain coherence and meditative fluidity. Her vibrant palette radiates with fresh hues, and her explosive brushstrokes traverse the landscape of consciousness. The artist excels at using lines to create ethereal landscapes and swirling intentions, these ambiguous yet distinguishable elements coalesce in a dreamlike microcosm, often drawn from specific moments and psychological experiences. The vivid energy ripples to the edges, reflecting an internal universe constructed through the wandering cinematic light, with layers intermingling, evoking subtle visual equilibrium between harmony and chaos.
