Magdalena Gluszak - Holeksa
Overview
Magdalena Gluszak - Holeksa was born in Poland in 1990 and holds an MFA Fine Arts with a Distinction from Wimbledon College of Arts, University of The Arts London. She is a member of the Digswell Arts and has been shortlisted for various art awards including the Jackson’s Painting Prize, and has exhibited extensively in galleries across London. Currently, she lives and works in Hertfordshire, UK.
The artist's work aims to find a language for exploring impermanence and the non-material, transforming these ambiguous and symbolic, yet uncertain and uncontrollable elements through painting. To her, the way the painting process is influenced by concepts of contrast and tension as well as the interplay of conflicting yet harmonious elements is an issue of interest. Magdalena Gluszak – Holeksa wrestles with memories and shifts between awareness and the subconscious. Drawn to cool color palettes, her compositions echo the nocturnal atmosphere of her upbringing environment. They merge elements of nature, interiors, and body details, retaining traces of personal photography, images, and intuitive sketches. These documented moments collide with inner experiences, hinting at the symbiosis and exchange between life and death, constantly evolving and prompting the artist to question the hierarchies of outer and inner realms.
