RIVER ART GALLERY is going to present Ray Han's first solo exhibition, "The Allegory of the Cave," unveiling the myriad stories accumulated by the artist through his life experiences and insights into the creative process. While endeavoring to dissect the self, the exhibition also engages in dialogue with the contemporary environment, fostering profound resonance. Bringing together the essence of Ray Han's work since its inception, the exhibition alludes to the responsibility borne by the artist through Plato's "Allegory of the Cave." Additionally, it explores discussions on environmental care, animal welfare, and hometown nostalgia, thereby igniting conversations on human consciousness and coexistence with other species.

"The Allegory of the Cave" originates from a passage in Plato's "Republic," Book VII, envisioned as an allegorical story based on the conversation between Socrates and Glaucon. Art derives from life and is closely related to philosophy, and "The Allegory of the Cave" also resonates with the essence of an artist. This piece is often used to explain the process of "becoming a philosopher (the pursuit of goodness)" and is frequently discussed by educators.

This exhibition is located on the second floor of the gallery, integrating the existing structure of the space. Starting from the staircase passage, there are hints of entering the cave. Beginning from the first exhibition area, "Inside the Cave," it embarks from the primal existence, using elements close to people's daily lives and emotionally charged brushstrokes to take viewers to their most primal state. Then, passing through the atrium formed by bright light symbolizing the "awareness" process of stepping out of the cave. Afterwards, carrying the mission and responsibility, returning to the cave to enter the final area, which also explores the subtle relationship between visual arts and human daily life through works combining with everyday crafts. Finally, leaving the cave with different mental states, reflecting on and integrating oneself the viewers can trigger more feelings and engage in empathy with the artist.

Ray Han sees "stepping out of the cave to see the sunlight" as an enlightenment or liberation process, breaking through barriers after awareness, and not content with being self-sufficient but once again returning to the inner world of the cave. Through continuous creation to express his ideas, he reveals the relationship between the artist and society. People can also see in his works the urgent feelings of longing for home and caring for nature, as well as the rich spiritual essence of animals in his eyes. Through "The Allegory of the Cave" as the foundation, viewers are invited to contemplate humanity's attitude towards various species after gaining awareness, and engage in spiritual communication with their own inner animal nature. It is a healing journey of self-reliance, benevolence while being close to life.
